Farm benchmarking increases understanding and improves crop performance. Previous initiatives like YEN and Farm Bench demonstrated the value of benchmarking but crop performance but ultimately struggled to find a sustainable operating model.
Performance Live aims to use satellite data to build a more cost-effective, sustainable and scalable crop benchmarking system.
There are an ever increasing number of tools promising to save fertiliser or increase yield through a range of sensing, measurement, data analytics and forecasting technologies. But independent results from on-farm trials and usage are limited.
The Crop Nutrition Club is a collaborative projects with farmers testing new technology and sharing what works.
Using manures can be impractical and lead to nutrient losses to air and water. Composting material first makes it easier to handle and can contribute to better soil health.
This project is testing a new high-capacity composter that can cope with high volumes of manure and agronomically testing the output for crop yields and soil health.
How can trusted information be accessed using AI toools to help crop husbandry decisions? This project tests an AI tool to support field decisions.

Read MoreTesting ways to improve precision in irrigation to reduce over-watering and potential harm to soils and crops from excessive water.
Read MoreTrialling a static composter which aims to use ventilation rather than regular turning and moving to aid the composting process, saving time and money.
Read MoreThe nutrient content of slurry is variable and its interaction with crops and soil is not simple to predict. This project is looking at ways to improve decision making around slurry use.
